I have wanted to try my hand at motion controlled timelapse for a while now. Until recently the only options seemed to be investing in high priced and quite cumbersome equipment. While this type of equipment certainly produces phenomenal results when in the hands of skilled timelapse artists, it didn’t seem plausible for me nor did it fit my shooting style. Enter the SYRP Genie motion control device. I discovered this Kickstarter funded gem a couple weeks ago and just got my hands on one this week. It is AWESOME, quite small and definitely capable of being carried easily to remote locations. When paired with my Glidetrack SD Hybrid 1m slider the Genie becomes capable of linear motion. It also features a 360 degree panning accessory that connects directly to a tripod. In addition to the “move shoot move” timelapse mode, the Genie also has a video mode which allows for smooth, steady, fast or slow video pans and slides! Check out the short test video below and you will see that the motion control timelapse game has been changed! I am looking forward to putting this to good use; this is going to be fun…
